Police Arrest Four in Rahat Over Illegal Weapons and Ammunition

Israeli police announced the arrest of four individuals in the city of Rahat in southern Israel on suspicion of possessing illegal weapons and ammunition. The arrests were made during a targeted operation aimed at combating violent crime and illegal arms trafficking in the city.

According to a police statement, a special command post was established in Rahat, led by the "Sahar" battalion and the Rahat police station, to focus on gun violence and illegal weapons. This initiative is part of a broader effort to disrupt criminal activity and enhance resident security.

During the operation, police searched a commercial establishment used as a butcher shop. Inside a hidden bag in a storage area, officers discovered a Glock pistol, ammunition clips, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. In a separate incident, officers stopped a suspicious vehicle whose occupants fled upon noticing the police presence. A search of the vehicle yielded an M-16 rifle, four ammunition clips, and additional bullets.

The four suspects, all residents of Rahat, were apprehended and transferred to the Southern District's Central Investigations Unit for further questioning. Major Mati Tsarfati of the "Sahar" battalion stated that the unit is working decisively to remove weapons from the streets and ensure public safety.
