Police Fatally Shoot Man Firing Rifle at Home in Yafia
A man in his thirties, Omar Hawari from Reineh, was killed by police gunfire in Yafia an-Nasra on Tuesday night. Police stated that Hawari was observed firing an M-16 rifle at a residential building. According to an updated police statement, undercover officers were stationed near the building as part of an operation against shooting and violence in the area, following previous shooting incidents at the same building.
Officers spotted a suspect arriving on a motorcycle with another individual. The suspect dismounted and began firing numerous rounds at the house. Police engaged the suspect, firing back and pursuing him. He was apprehended after being wounded by police fire. The M-16 rifle used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.
Major General Meir Eliahu, commander of the Northern District, assessed the situation at the scene and commended the officers' swift response, stating their intervention prevented casualties.
