Police Fatally Shoot Man Firing M-16 at Nazareth Home
A man in his thirties, identified as Omar Hawari from the town of Reineh, was killed by police gunfire in Nazareth on the night of September 24th. According to police, officers observed Hawari firing a barrage of bullets from an M-16 rifle at a residential building.
Police stated that Northern District detectives were stationed near the building, which had been targeted by gunfire in recent days, as part of an effort to combat shooting incidents and crime in Nazareth. They spotted a suspect arriving on a motorcycle with another person. The suspect dismounted and began firing heavily at the house.
Officers immediately engaged the suspect, returning fire. Following a foot pursuit, police apprehended the man after he was wounded by their gunfire. The M-16 rifle used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.
Northern District Police Commander, Major General Meir Eliyahu, assessed the situation and praised the detectives for their swift action in neutralizing the armed individual, preventing further casualties.
