Arab Israeli Lawmaker Mocks Netanyahu's UN Speech Amid Walkout
Dozens of delegates and national representatives walked out of the UN General Assembly hall on Thursday in a diplomatic protest just before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his address. Some attendees in the hall, however, voiced support for Netanyahu. As Netanyahu commenced his speech, he directly addressed those who left, calling them "moral cowards" and inviting anyone else wishing to depart to do so.
Arab Israeli lawmaker Ahmad Tibi, from the Ta'al party, commented on the incident via his X account, posting a video of the walkout and sarcastically remarking, "Voluntary migration from the hall, another international achievement for Netanyahu." The phrase "voluntary migration" is notably used in Israeli political discourse concerning proposals for the future of the Palestinian population, particularly advocating for conditions that would encourage Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank to leave for third countries.
The walkout became a prominent moment during Netanyahu's UN address, highlighting the tension surrounding his international appearances and the gap between his presentation of Israel's position and global criticism.
