Macklemore Announces 'Free Palestine Tour' After Ed Sheeran Show Removal

American rapper Macklemore has announced a new European tour titled 'Free Palestine Tour,' with initial dates set for Dublin on October 26, Paris on October 29, and London on October 30. This move comes weeks after he was removed from Ed Sheeran's tour due to strong pro-Palestinian statements made on stage.

Macklemore stated on social media that a shift in global perception regarding the Palestinian issue is occurring, and audiences now expect artists to 'take a stand, educate themselves, and be part of the community,' rather than solely using the stage for entertainment. He criticized artists who remain outside political discourse, asserting, 'Being apolitical during a genocide is no longer an option,' referencing the conflict in Gaza. He also argued that artists must use their platforms to 'resist attempts to silence' pro-Palestine calls.

This announcement follows a pattern of provocative behavior during his recent performances. Previously, while opening for Ed Sheeran in New Jersey, Macklemore called for "Free Palestine" with images from the Gaza war displayed behind him. He was subsequently dropped from the remainder of Sheeran's tour after venues refused him stage access.

The decision to remove Macklemore sparked reactions within the American Jewish and Israeli communities. Singer Pink shared a post from the organization StopAntisemitism accusing the rapper of "anti-Israel propaganda." Pink later clarified her support for the Jewish people but felt compelled to address what she perceived as political exploitation of a music stage.

Ed Sheeran addressed the controversy during a Philadelphia concert, clarifying that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the production companies and venue owners, not by him. Sheeran expressed being "horrified by the conflict between Israel and Palestine" and called the suffering on both sides a "human tragedy."
