Terror Convict in Abu Khdeir Murder Dies in Hospital
Yosef Chaim Ben David, 42, a security prisoner convicted of the murder of Palestinian teenager Mohammed Abu Khdeir, died on Thursday after being taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Ben David was held in the Sharon prison, and his medical condition was kept private.
Ben David was the primary defendant among the three involved in the July 2014 murder of Abu Khdeir. In 2016, the District Court sentenced him to life imprisonment plus an additional 20 years consecutively, along with compensation to the victim's family, after determining he was the driving force behind the act. His appeal against the conviction and sentence was unanimously rejected by the Supreme Court in 2018.
The Israel Prison Service stated that, as with any prisoner death, a fact-finding team has been appointed to investigate the circumstances of the case.
