Terrorist Captured After Deadly Attack Near Neve Tzuf; Potential First Execution Under New Law

Israeli forces have apprehended the terrorist responsible for a deadly attack near the settlement of Neve Tzuf, also known as Halamish, in the West Bank. The suspect, identified as Qadri Muhammad Samra from the Arab village of Biddu, was captured alive and wounded in a hospital in Ramallah. He was reportedly injured by gunfire from a tracker who was near the scene during the attack.

Samra's capture alive has raised the possibility that he could be the first individual executed under Israel's recently enacted death penalty law for terrorists. This law mandates capital punishment for those convicted of terrorist acts.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has strongly advocated for the immediate implementation of the death penalty in this case, stating, "In this case, there is a mandatory sentence, and therefore we demand to implement this sentence and carry out the execution of the terrorist. The law is the law."

However, Yulia Malinovsky, a Member of Knesset from the Yisrael Beiteinu party, expressed skepticism about the law's actual application. She commented, "Unfortunately, I don't think an execution will be carried out in the end. The despicable terrorist who was caught is the first on whom the death penalty should apply, and there was a great opportunity here. Instead of enacting a real and constitutional law, Ben-Gvir enacted a death penalty law for TikTok, which I greatly doubt will be implemented, and the terrorist caught will not see the gallows but a cell in prison."
