Terrorist Convicted of Two Murders Dies in Hospital
Atef Sbeih, who was convicted of the murders of teenager Danny Katz and soldier Dafna Karmon, died Thursday at the age of 68. Sbeih was imprisoned at Rimonim-Ofek Prison, and the circumstances of his death are being kept private.
Sbeih was found guilty along with four others in the 1983 murder of 14-year-old Danny Katz, who disappeared from his Haifa home and was later found dead with signs of violence and strangulation. Following a lengthy legal battle, a retrial was ordered, and in 2000, the defendants were convicted again.
Additionally, Sbeih was convicted of the 1982 murder of soldier Dafna Karmon. For this crime, he received a sentence of life imprisonment plus 15 years. Approximately five years ago, Sbeih applied for presidential clemency after serving 37 years, despite never expressing remorse for his actions.
