Woman Details How She Uncovered Imposter Posing as Shin Bet Agent

A 34-year-old man from Kiryat Ata has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a security agent and defrauding a woman he was romantically involved with. The woman, who exposed the scheme, revealed in an interview with N12 that she maintained the relationship to gather evidence against the suspect. The man allegedly claimed to be a Shin Bet operative who lost his family on October 7th, using this story to explain his secrecy and need for funds. He reportedly told the woman his work required him to conceal details and that his family was killed in the Hamas attacks.

However, the woman became suspicious due to inconsistencies in his personal details and his fabricated story about his security service. Despite her suspicions, she decided to continue the relationship to collect more information. She stated her goal was to expose him quickly to prevent other women from becoming victims. She explained that the elaborate cover story, including details about being an evacuee from the Gaza border communities whose family was murdered, was highly specific and not something encountered daily.

The turning point came when the suspect requested money from her. She noted that he blocked her on all platforms, preventing her from verifying his identity. Before contacting the police, she confronted him with some of the information she had gathered, but he reportedly maintained his false narrative. The police confirmed that the suspect never served in the Shin Bet or any other security agency, his family is alive, and he lived with them in the Krayot area.

Following the woman's complaint, an investigation was launched by the Northern District Police. The suspect was arrested on September 17th and his detention has been extended until September 27th on suspicion of impersonation, fraud, and sexual offenses. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the possibility of other victims.
