Israeli police have filed an indictment against a 48-year-old Palestinian resident of Nablus, accusing him of staying in Israel illegally for about six months while pretending to be someone else. According to the case, he entered Israel without authorization and remained there until his arrest.
Police said officers noticed a car that aroused suspicion and ordered it to stop for inspection. The suspect, who was sitting in the back seat, handed over a forged identity card bearing his photo but another person’s details, in an apparent attempt to conceal his real identity. When officers questioned him further about his age and place of residence, he gave false answers.
The investigation found that he had entered Israel in January 2026 and stayed in the country without a valid entry or residence permit. After the probe was completed, prosecutors filed charges for unlawful entry into Israel, impersonation, use of a forged document, and obstructing a police officer in the line of duty.
Police said the case is part of a wider enforcement effort against the employment, transport, and sheltering of illegal residents across Israel. They added that hundreds of illegal residents have recently been detained, and warned that the phenomenon has significant security implications, with such suspects often linked to criminal and security offenses.
