Illegal Resident Caught With Car Theft Equipment in Jerusalem, Arrest Extended

Police officers from the Oz station in Jerusalem arrested a 19-year-old illegal resident from the West Bank after spotting him suspiciously moving among parked cars in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood. When officers ordered him to stop for inspection, he fled on foot but was caught after a short chase and extensive search.

Upon searching his belongings, police found sophisticated car theft tools including a vehicle computer with an adapter, window breakers, and duplicated car keys. The suspect was taken for questioning, where it was confirmed he was staying in Israel without a valid entry permit. The seized equipment indicated an intention to steal vehicles by bypassing original keys.

The Jerusalem court extended the suspect's detention until August 5, 2026, citing the severity of the charges and his illegal status. This arrest is part of a broader police crackdown on illegal residents and related criminal activity across Israel. In the past week alone, around 380 illegal residents were detained nationwide. Authorities are also targeting those who transport or employ illegal residents. Recently, police thwarted an infiltration attempt near Tarkumia, arresting six illegal residents and their driver trying to breach the security fence.
