Man Posed as Shin Bet Agent to Romance Victim, Steal Thousands
A 34-year-old resident of Kiryat Ata has been arrested by police on suspicion of impersonating a Shin Bet agent to pursue a romantic relationship with a woman. The suspect allegedly claimed to be a combat operative serving in Gaza and told the victim that his family had been killed in the October 7th Hamas attack, despite his family being alive and living with him. The investigation revealed that the suspect, who never served in any security agency, defrauded the woman of thousands of shekels. He also reportedly engaged in sexual offenses. The woman filed a complaint with the police, leading to his arrest last week. His detention has been extended until September 26, 2026, as the investigation continues into charges of impersonation, fraud, and sexual offenses.
