Driver Arrested for 217 KPH Speeding Under Influence

Police in southern Israel have arrested a young driver for traveling at an extreme speed of 217 kilometers per hour on Highway 90, a road with a speed limit of 90 kph. After legal reductions, the driver was officially recorded at 212 kph. The driver, a resident of Eilat born in 2001, was stopped by traffic police during a proactive enforcement operation.

During the investigation, officers suspected the driver was also under the influence of dangerous substances. Following a swift inquiry, the traffic prosecution unit in Eilat filed an expedited indictment against him. The charges include driving at an excessively high speed, driving under the influence of substances, and reckless endangerment of other road users.

In addition to the indictment, prosecutors requested the driver be held in custody until the end of legal proceedings. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and his driver's license was administratively suspended for the same period. "The driver chose to endanger all road users by driving at an extremely high speed, 212 kph after reduction, combined with the consumption of dangerous substances. The circumstances of the offense itself justify his arrest to prevent the danger stemming from him," stated Superintendent Adv. Gur Tzur, a traffic prosecutor in Eilat.
