Driver Arrested for Speeding, Drug Use on Highway 90
Police in Eilat arrested a young driver late Tuesday night for traveling at an excessive speed of 217 kilometers per hour on Highway 90, where the speed limit is 90 kph. The driver, an Eilat resident born in 2001, was stopped during a traffic enforcement operation by the National Traffic Police (YAMAT Eilat).
During the subsequent investigation, officers developed suspicion that the driver was also under the influence of drugs. This led to additional serious charges.
The Eilat Traffic Prosecution Unit filed an expedited indictment against the driver, charging him with speeding, driving under the influence of drugs, and reckless driving. A request was also made to detain him until the end of legal proceedings.
In addition to the legal actions, the driver's vehicle was impounded and towed for 30 days, and his driver's license was administratively suspended for the same period. "He chose to endanger all road users," stated Eilat Traffic Prosecutor, Inspector Adv. Gur Tzur, emphasizing that the combination of extreme speeding and drug use justified the driver's detention due to the danger he posed.
