Driver Arrested for 132 MPH Speeding Under Drug Influence

Police in Eilat, Israel, apprehended a driver traveling at an extreme speed of 217 kilometers per hour (approximately 135 mph) on Highway 90. Following a reduction mandated by law, the driver was officially cited for 212 kph, more than double the legal limit.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered the driver, an Eilat resident born in 2001, was also under the influence of dangerous drugs. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and his license was administratively suspended for the same period.

A fast-tracked indictment has been filed against the driver, charging him with speeding, driving under the influence of drugs, and reckless driving. Prosecutors have also requested his detention until the end of legal proceedings, citing his dangerous behavior on the road.

"The driver chose to endanger all road users by driving at an extremely high speed, 212 kph after reduction, combined with the consumption of dangerous drugs. The circumstances of the offense itself justify his arrest to prevent the danger he poses," stated Traffic Prosecutor Adv. Gur Tzur.

This incident follows a series of recent high-speed driving offenses in Israel, including a driver caught at 216 kph and a motorcyclist clocked at 285 kph who received a lengthy prison sentence and license suspension. Traffic police emphasize that excessive speed, especially when combined with drug use, is a primary factor in fatal road accidents.
