IDF Soldier Suspected in Murder Linked to Crime Syndicate Feud

Israeli police announced the breakthrough in the August 12th murder of Hisham Khujirat in Shefa-Amr, a killing believed to be part of an ongoing conflict between the Suwad and Khaldi crime families. A 24-year-old resident of Bir al-Maksur, who is an active soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), was arrested on the day of the murder. Investigators from the National Bureau for Serious and International Crimes (YAHBAL) have reportedly gathered sufficient evidence to charge him with involvement in the assassination.

According to police, Khujirat was shot and killed as he left his home by individuals in a vehicle that blocked his path. The suspects then fled the scene. Later that day, investigators located a suspicious, abandoned vehicle in a forest near Bir al-Maksur. The IDF soldier was apprehended there, allegedly attempting to set the car on fire with gasoline, according to police suspicions. After approximately 40 days in custody, investigators announced the evidence against him was sufficient to proceed with charges.

The murder is the third homicide solved this year by YAHBAL investigators in connection with the feud between the two crime syndicates. About six weeks prior to Khujirat's death, on July 1st, Ali Suwad was murdered. During the escape from that incident, Khujirat himself was shot and wounded, before being killed later.

Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai praised the investigators for solving all three murders, emphasizing the police's continued fight against crime and violence in Arab society. A statement of intent to indict has been filed against the soldier, with the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office expected to file formal charges soon.
