Halevi countered that demanding an international court impose a ceasefire on the IDF during the war in Gaza constituted support for the armed struggle against Israel, asserting that Cassif's calls for a halt to fighting were inseparable from Hamas's actions. He stated, "In the war in the Gaza Strip, there were only two sides, the IDF and Hamas."
The confrontation occurred during marathon deliberations by the Central Elections Committee on requests to disqualify lists and candidates for the 26th Knesset.
