Election Committee Weighs Disqualifying MK Ofer Cassif
The Central Elections Committee is deliberating a request to disqualify Member of Knesset Ofer Cassif from running in the upcoming Knesset elections. Ahead of the hearing, the Attorney General and the State Attorney announced their position that there is no legal basis to disqualify him. Cassif stated at the hearing's opening that there is no contradiction between his "absolute and unequivocal condemnation of the Gaza massacre and the war crimes being perpetrated by Israel there and in the West Bank, and the condemnation of the October 7 massacre." The committee is expected to vote on the disqualification request at the conclusion of the hearing. Should a decision be made to disqualify a candidate, the Supreme Court has the authority to review the decision according to established legal procedures.
