Cyprus Government Approves Maccabi Tel Aviv's EuroLeague Hosting Request

The government of Cyprus has officially approved Maccabi Tel Aviv's request to host its EuroLeague basketball games in Limassol. This decision follows a meeting between Maccabi Tel Aviv chairman Shimon Mizrahi and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. The club had formally submitted a written request to the Cypriot Republic, which was met with a positive response.

While the Cypriot government's approval is a significant step, the final decision now rests with the EuroLeague management. Maccabi Tel Aviv is awaiting the official confirmation from the league. If approved, the "Spyros Kyprianou" arena in Limassol is the likely venue, a modern facility that has recently undergone significant government investment and is considered suitable for the security and logistical needs of an Israeli team.

The issue of Israeli fans attending the games has not yet been resolved and will be examined separately based on security directives. The move to Cyprus is a response to the complex security situation in Israel and the reluctance of other European teams to travel to Tel Aviv for games.
