Maccabi Tel Aviv May Relocate EuroLeague Home Games to Cyprus

Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly considering Cyprus as a new venue for its home EuroLeague basketball games, according to reports from the island nation. The Israeli club has been forced to play its home games outside of Israel for the past three seasons due to security concerns, hosting them in Belgrade, Serbia.

Cypriot media claims that Maccabi Tel Aviv has approached officials in Cyprus expressing a desire to host their European league matches there. The reports suggest the request has been positively received, with a high probability that the move could be finalized.

This potential relocation follows two recent preparatory matches Maccabi Tel Aviv played in Cyprus against Olympiacos and Aris Thessaloniki. Cypriot media suggested that these games strengthened ties between the clubs, with Maccabi Tel Aviv Chairman Shimon Mizrahi reportedly discussing the matter with the President of Cyprus.

However, Maccabi Tel Aviv has not confirmed these reports, stating that the club "does not address the various reports that are published." The team maintains its goal of returning its EuroLeague games to Israel as soon as possible. In parallel, the club announced last week that EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu is expected to visit Israel in the coming weeks to assess the situation, following discussions with Maccabi Tel Aviv's leadership.
