Maccabi Tel Aviv Considers Cyprus for Home Games Amidst Relocation Talks

Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly exploring the possibility of hosting its home basketball games in Cyprus, according to recent reports from the island nation. The club has allegedly initiated discussions with the Cypriot government, which is reportedly more amenable to the idea than in previous years. The move would place the team's home venue approximately a 40-minute flight from Israel.

Maccabi Tel Aviv has officially stated that it does not comment on the specific report. However, a source within the club acknowledged that the matter is under review. "There is no doubt that Cyprus has clear advantages over Belgrade, regarding our arrival and the arrival of our fans," the source stated. "On the other hand, we are engaged in a process with the EuroLeague to move the games back to Israel, and that is what we are currently focused on."

Despite these considerations, Maccabi Tel Aviv's initial home games in the EuroLeague, scheduled against Besiktas on September 30 and Milan on October 8, are not expected to be moved from Belgrade, Serbia, where they are currently being played. The team is preparing for its season opener on Thursday against ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne on the road. Players Ozias Barry and Daniel Theis are expected to be in the lineup, with a decision on Jimmy Clark's availability pending further consultation.
