Maccabi Tel Aviv Considers Hosting EuroLeague Games in Cyprus

Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly exploring the possibility of hosting its EuroLeague basketball games in Cyprus, according to reports from the neighboring island nation. Sources in Cyprus suggest there is a high probability the move will occur, with the Israeli champions having already played two preparatory matches against Olympiacos and Aris Thessaloniki on the island. Cypriot media claims Maccabi Tel Aviv has sent a letter to the country's president expressing its desire to host home games there, and that the request has been largely approved.

Maccabi Tel Aviv has not officially confirmed these reports, stating, "Maccabi Tel Aviv does not address the various reports being published, and clarifies that it will continue to do everything in its power for EuroLeague games to return to Israel as soon as possible." The club recently announced that it had reached understandings with EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu for him to visit Israel within the next two weeks to assess the situation, following discussions with club chairman Shimon Mizrahi and professional manager Claudio Coldebella.

For the past three years, Maccabi Tel Aviv has been forced to play its home EuroLeague games in Serbia due to the security situation following the outbreak of the "Swords of Iron" war. Last year, the games briefly returned to Israel for about a month and a half before the "Roaring Lion" war began.
