The remarks came during an interview with CNN just before Netanyahu's arrival in New York to address the UN General Assembly.
Adams had previously vowed to arrest Netanyahu if he came to the city, citing an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). However, in the CNN interview, Adams stated that New York City lacks the authority to enforce an ICC warrant. He added, "If the ICC asks us to arrest someone for violating the laws, who are we to say they are above the law? I firmly believe everyone must be held accountable."
The interview aired shortly after Adams met with U.S. President Donald Trump at Gracie Mansion, the mayor's official residence. Trump praised Adams, saying he "has great potential to be a great mayor."
