Israel's Transportation Grinds to Halt for Yom Kippur Holiday
As Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, approaches, Israel's public transportation and air travel services are winding down. Israel Railways will cease operations at 1:00 PM on Sunday, with services resuming Tuesday morning. Ahead of the halt, train services will be increased, including two trains per hour on the Haifa-Tel Aviv line and service on the Hadera East-Rosh Ha'ayin North line. Notably, train services will not resume on Sunday night but will only restart on Tuesday morning, including overnight trains between Monday and Tuesday.
Intercity bus services will gradually stop between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM on Sunday, while urban bus lines will conclude between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Bus services are scheduled to restart gradually from 8:30 PM on Sunday night. Light rail services in Jerusalem and the central region will end between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
Ben Gurion Airport will see its last departures and arrivals by 1:55 PM on Sunday. Terminal 1 will resume operations at 2:00 AM between Monday and Tuesday, while Terminal 3 will gradually restart with the first arrival at 10:30 PM Monday and the first departure at 11:30 PM Monday.
Ramon Airport will cease operations at 11:30 AM on Sunday and will resume at 6:00 AM on Tuesday. Haifa Airport will stop services at 2:00 PM on Sunday and restart at 6:00 AM on Tuesday.
Land border crossings will also close. Allenby, Rabin, and Jordan River crossings will shut by 12:00 PM on Sunday and will reopen on Tuesday. The Taba border crossing will close at 1:00 PM on Sunday but will reopen earlier, at 10:00 PM on Sunday night.
