Israel's Public Transport to Halt for Yom Kippur Holiday

Israel is preparing for a near-complete shutdown of public transportation as the nation observes Yom Kippur. Beginning on Sunday, September 20, buses, trains, and trams will gradually cease operations ahead of the holiday, which starts at sunset and ends at nightfall on Monday, September 21. City and intercity bus services will see reduced frequency from approximately 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, with the exact timing of the last departures varying by route and operator. Tram services are also expected to stop running between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM on Sunday. While tram and bus services are scheduled to resume gradually on Monday evening around 9:30 PM, passengers are advised to check specific schedules as services will not restart simultaneously. Israel Railways will operate on a special Friday-like schedule on Sunday, September 20, with passenger trains running until around 1:00 PM. Service will be increased on the Haifa-Tel Aviv line to two trains per hour, and limited service will operate on the Hadera-East to Rosh Ha'ayin-North segment. Unlike other forms of public transport, passenger trains will remain suspended throughout Yom Kippur and will not resume service until the night between Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22, including overnight routes.
