Prominent Rabbi Mordechai Auerbach, 84, Passes Away in Tel Aviv
Rabbi Mordechai Auerbach, a senior rabbi in Tel Aviv, passed away at the age of 84. Born in Jerusalem to Rabbi Shlomo-Zalman Auerbach, a rabbi in the Sha'arei Hesed neighborhood, Rabbi Mordechai Auerbach later moved to Tel Aviv after his marriage.
In Tel Aviv, he served as the rabbi of the 'Abir Yaakov' community of Sadigura and headed the 'Halichot Shlomo' yeshiva. He also led the 'Taharat HaMishpacha' organization, which focuses on family purity laws, and gathered a community of baalei teshuva (returnees to religious observance) around him.
Rabbi Auerbach maintained a friendship with the religious Zionist yeshiva 'Ma'aleh Eliyahu' and would attend their 'Selichot Rishonot' (first penitential prayers) annually. The funeral procession was scheduled to begin late Tuesday night with eulogies at his Beit Midrash 'Abir Yaakov' in Tel Aviv, followed by a journey to Jerusalem for further eulogies at the Shagar funeral home before proceeding to burial at Har HaMenuchot cemetery.
