Prominent Rabbi Mordechai Auerbach, Leader in Tel Aviv, Dies at 84

Rabbi Mordechai Auerbach, a leading rabbi in Tel Aviv and son of the revered Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, passed away on Saturday evening at the age of 84. He was the rabbi of the 'Avir Yaakov' community in Tel Aviv and headed the 'Halichot Shlomo' yeshiva. Rabbi Auerbach was hospitalized in Ichilov Hospital the previous week due to severe pneumonia, and his condition worsened, leading to his transfer to intensive care. Prayers for his recovery were offered throughout the Jewish community.

Born in Jerusalem in 1942, Rabbi Auerbach studied at the Ponevezh Yeshiva. After marrying, he moved to Tel Aviv and was appointed rabbi of the 'Avir Yaakov' Sadigura community, filling a void left by the previous rabbi. For decades, he served as a spiritual guide in central Tel Aviv, fostering a diverse community that included baalei teshuva (returnees to religious observance), scholars, and laypeople. He was known for his inclusive approach, emphasizing respect for individuals while upholding strict adherence to Jewish law.

Rabbi Auerbach also led the 'Halichot Shlomo' yeshiva, named after his father, and served as president of the 'National Center for Family Purity.' He was also involved with educational institutions in Jerusalem, including the 'Ohel Rivka' seminary for girls and the 'Chachmei Shlomo' Talmud Torah. He regularly received visitors seeking his guidance on halachic matters and life advice.

Rabbi Auerbach is survived by his sons, Rabbi Aharon Auerbach and Rabbi Chaim Leib Auerbach, and his sons-in-law, Rabbi Avraham Natan Bornstein and Rabbi Yosef Meir Feldman, all of whom are involved in rabbinical and educational work. He also leaves behind several brothers and brothers-in-law who are prominent rabbis.
