Israel Braces for Variable Weather Ahead of Yom Kippur Holiday

Israel is experiencing changeable weather conditions, with temperatures remaining below seasonal norms on Saturday morning, September 19. Light, localized showers are possible in the north and along the coast. However, a warming trend is expected by Yom Kippur, which begins Sunday evening, September 20.

Friday and Saturday saw rain in many northern and central areas. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in the Galilee region, with 17 mm in Baram and 11 mm each in Elon and Ayelet Hashahar. El Rom in the Golan Heights received 10 mm. Other stations recorded less than 10 mm, while Tel Aviv and Jerusalem saw under 1 mm.

Temperatures on Saturday night and Sunday are forecast as follows: Jerusalem 17-27°C, Tel Aviv 24-30°C, Haifa 23-30°C, Safed 18-27°C, Katzrin 20-31°C, Tiberias 22-32°C, Nazareth 22-31°C, Afula 22-32°C, Beit She'an 24-36°C, Lod 22-31°C, Ashdod 23-30°C, Beersheba 21-31°C, Dead Sea coast 25-33°C, Mitzpe Ramon 18-29°C, and Eilat 26-35°C.

On Sunday, temperatures will rise slightly to seasonal averages. Monday, September 21, the day of Yom Kippur, will see a further increase in temperatures, particularly in mountainous and inland areas, with clearing skies expected. No significant temperature changes are anticipated on Tuesday, September 22, after the holiday concludes. Yom Kippur begins around 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 20, and ends around 7:10 PM on Monday, September 21.
