Israel Braces for Cooler Weather, Dangerous Seas Ahead of Yom Kippur
Autumnal weather patterns continue across Israel, with temperatures expected to drop and light rain possible in the north and along the coast early on Saturday, September 19. Following rainfall the previous day, particularly in mountainous areas, Saturday will see a noticeable decrease in temperatures nationwide.
Highs on Saturday are forecast to reach 31 degrees Celsius in Katzrin, 27 in Safed and Jerusalem, 30 in Sderot, and 34 near the Dead Sea. Conditions in the Mediterranean Sea will be hazardous for swimming, with waves potentially reaching 1.5 meters and many beaches expected to fly black flags.
Looking ahead to Yom Kippur, a warming trend will begin on Sunday, the eve of the fast. Temperatures will rise during the fast itself but remain below seasonal averages. A slight cooling is anticipated later in the week.
Specific Saturday temperatures include: Kiryat Shmona (32C), Nahariya (30C), Haifa (30C), Tiberias (33C), Tayibe (31C), Ariel (26C), Tel Aviv (30C), Rehovot (31C), Beit Shemesh (31C), Beersheba (31C), and Mitzpe Ramon (29C). Eilat is expected to be the hottest at 37C.
On Sunday, a slight warming is expected, with cooler evenings in the mountains. Yom Kippur day on Monday will bring mild to moderate heat. Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to see temperatures return to seasonal norms with no significant changes.
