Israeli Man Dies in Paragliding Accident in Colombia
A 23-year-old Israeli man, a recently discharged combat soldier, died Friday morning in a paragliding accident in the city of Bello, located in Colombia's Antioquia department. The young man was on his "big trip" through South America when the paraglider he was on with a local instructor crashed in a forest, reportedly due to severe weather conditions.
The instructor sustained serious injuries, while the Israeli's death was confirmed at the scene. Representatives from Chabad and the Israeli Embassy are working with Colombian authorities to expedite the return of his body for burial in Israel.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Initial checks indicated that the paragliding operation was legally registered and functioning in accordance with the law.
