Ben-Gvir Slams Public Defense Over Treatment of Murder Suspect
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir fiercely criticized the Public Defense, an organization representing defendants unable to afford legal counsel, following backlash over the handling of Agam Zarfati. Zarfati is accused of murdering Binyamin Raz.
Ben-Gvir's comments came after Zarfati was documented at the Abu Kabir detention center. He stated, "I read and cannot believe it! A murder suspect is mocking and belittling, harming female prisoners and guards, violating order, and behaving as if she can do anything she wants."
He further elaborated that when the Israel Prison Service refused to tolerate Zarfati's alleged disruptive behavior, she was transferred to Abu Kabir and treated according to law. Ben-Gvir accused the Public Defense of speaking out only when such measures are taken, saying, "When the Prison Service is not ready for the celebration, they transfer her to Abu Kabir and deal with her according to the law and justice, then suddenly the Public Defense opens its mouth and chatters."
