Itamar Ben Gvir Reveals Shin Bet Chief Praised His Prison Policies Amid Gaza Tensions

Itamar Ben Gvir, Israel's National Security Minister, disclosed in a radio interview on Monday that Shin Bet chief David Zini told him he deserved the Israel Prize for his actions in Israeli prisons. Ben Gvir criticized the current prison conditions, saying terrorists enjoy privileges such as playing ping pong and having refrigerators stocked with meat. He condemned what he called a long-standing underestimation of the threat posed by terrorists, stating that for 78 years the state has been complacent.

Ben Gvir also explained his opposition to cooperation with the Gaza Peace Council, emphasizing that Hamas cannot be trusted and that the solution regarding Gaza should focus on encouraging emigration rather than dialogue. He warned that Hamas is not disarming but merely regrouping. Ben Gvir expressed confidence that his political influence is growing, predicting he could increase his Knesset seats from six to 12 or 15 in upcoming elections, thereby strengthening his political power.

Regarding his impact on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ben Gvir claimed that over the past two and a half years, his presence in the cabinet and his hawkish stance have pushed the prime minister to take actions he previously hesitated to undertake. He suggested that his influence has contributed to a more assertive government policy.
