Israel's National Security Minister Defends Tough Stance on Prisoners

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has issued strong statements regarding his policies on Palestinian prisoners and security, directly addressing criticism. He commented on plans for a new flotilla to Gaza, noting that organizers anticipate his departure from office before attempting to breach the blockade again, and are waiting for the elections to conclude.

Ben-Gvir emphasized his belief that harsh conditions in Israeli prisons serve as an effective deterrent against potential terrorists. He stated that young individuals in Judea, Samaria, or Gaza, witnessing the current prison environment, understand it is a place to avoid. He contrasted past prison conditions, which he described as "hotels" offering "marmalade and chocolate," with the present, which he characterized as "hell."

The minister also revealed he has been the target of ten assassination attempts, attributing these to opponents who "fear" his firm stance and resolve. He further criticized what he termed "false state wisdom," arguing that Israel's prolonged effort to appear "beautiful" and "sweet" to the international community has yielded no positive results.

Ben-Gvir asserted that demonstrating strength and determination, including worsening conditions for terrorists in prisons, is the only effective strategy for Israel. He believes this approach is crucial for national security.
