Israel's National Security Minister Slams Public Defense for Murder Suspect

Israel's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has sharply criticized the Public Defense Office following backlash over the treatment of Agam Zarfati, a suspect accused of murdering Benyahu Razi. Zarfati was reportedly documented in the Abu Kabir detention facility.

Ben-Gvir expressed disbelief at the Public Defense Office's stance, stating, "Unbelievable to read! A murder suspect mocks and disrespects, harms female prisoners and guards, violates order, and behaves as if anything is permitted." He added that when the Israel Prison Service (IPS) refused to tolerate her behavior, transferred her to Abu Kabir, and treated her according to the law, the Public Defense Office "suddenly opened their mouths and babbled."

He accused the Public Defense Office of defending a murder suspect who had "crossed all boundaries" and was attempting to run the prison herself, disrespecting the prison guards. Ben-Gvir declared, "On my watch, this concept is over. The party in the prisons is over, even for criminal murderers. Period!"

The minister's remarks come amid criticism directed at the IPS for its handling of Zarfati's case and her alleged disruptive behavior within the detention center.
