Prisoner Transport Video Sparks Outrage in Israel

A video circulating on social media shows Agam Zarfati, a key suspect in the murder of Benyahu Rezi, being escorted by two prison guards while bent over, resembling the treatment of a security prisoner. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the Public Defender's Office, which condemned the Prison Service for the "deplorable, degrading, and unjustified" treatment of a criminal detainee. They stated that the footage constitutes a severe violation of fundamental rights, especially for a detainee presumed innocent during an ongoing legal process.

The Public Defender's Office further criticized Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir for his support of the publication of such footage, calling it indicative of a "deep rift," and urged the Commissioner of the Prison Service to intervene immediately. This incident follows a recent court hearing where Zarfati and co-defendant Shilat Huta were observed laughing and adjusting their hair on camera. The victim's uncle, Noam Rezi, harshly criticized their behavior, comparing it to a "TikTok live stream" and noting their admission to the indictment without remorse.

Earlier reports detailed a confrontation during the investigation between Zarfati and another involved party, Linor Sasson. Sasson accused Zarfati of using them to commit the murder, while Zarfati claimed Sasson instructed others to change their clothes and leave the city immediately after the act due to their black attire appearing "suspicious." Sasson completely denied this claim.
