Israeli EdTech Startup Loora Raises $22 Million for AI English Learning App
Israeli startup Loora has successfully raised $22 million in a Series B funding round to advance its AI-powered English learning application. The app aims to provide a personalized virtual tutor, differentiating itself from general AI chatbots like ChatGPT by focusing specifically on language acquisition.
Loora's approach leverages a vast dataset of user interactions to refine teaching methods, ensuring continuous adaptation of learning paths for each user. The platform integrates models from various providers, including GPT and Claude, to maximize its effectiveness. The company reports a global user base of approximately 15 million, with around 200,000 users in Israel.
The funding round was led by new investors Union Tech Ventures and Israeli-based vgames, with participation from existing investors such as iMerc, Hearst Ventures, and QP Ventures. Loora has also secured distribution agreements with over one hundred organizations worldwide, including governments and universities, to offer its service to their employees and students.
According to the company, the typical Loora user is between 25 and 55 years old, with 72% using the app to enhance their career prospects. Loora highlights user engagement data, showing dedication such as one user practicing daily for 1,377 consecutive days. The app offers subscription plans ranging from approximately $13.33 to $20 per month.
Loora CEO Roi Mor emphasized the critical role of English proficiency in global opportunities, stating that the app provides an affordable alternative to expensive private tutors. The company has reportedly doubled its revenue in the past year, reaching an annual revenue run rate in the tens of millions of dollars.
