UK Labour MP Questions Military Action Against Israel

British Member of Parliament Tahir Ali, representing Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley for the Labour Party, questioned during a parliamentary debate on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict whether it was time for military action against Israel. Ali made the remarks in response to Liberal Democrat MP Richard Ford, who stated that Hamas must be disarmed as part of any long-term solution.

Ali countered by asking if Israel should also be disarmed, citing alleged atrocities, and referencing past government interventions in the Middle East to address human rights violations and protect international trade routes. Ford rejected Ali's comparison between Hamas and Israel.

The Jewish Chronicle reported that Ali had previously urged then-Foreign Secretary David Lammy in July of the previous year to send troops to protect Palestinians from what he termed 'genocide' by the IDF.

Another Labour MP, Imran Hussain, also spoke critically, calling on the British government to halt all remaining arms sales to Israel, specifically mentioning the F-35 fighter jet program, as the UK still supplies parts for the aircraft. Hussain asserted that no British equipment should indirectly or directly support alleged genocide in Gaza or war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories, stating that the scale of death and suffering caused by the Netanyahu government's actions in Gaza demands urgent and immediate further action.
