UK Labour MP Calls for Military Action Against Israel

British Labour Member of Parliament Tahir Ali urged the United Kingdom to consider "military action" against Israel during a debate in the House of Commons on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ali, representing Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley, posed the question during a speech by Liberal Democrat MP Richard Foord, who had stated that the disarmament and dismantling of Hamas should be part of any lasting solution.

Ali questioned whether Israel should also be disarmed, citing "atrocities committed," and referenced past British military interventions in the Middle East aimed at defending human rights or protecting international trade routes. He asked, "Isn't it time that military action was also taken against Israel?" according to reports from the Jewish Chronicle. Foord rejected the comparison between Israel and Hamas, noting that the Palestinian Islamist movement is a proscribed terrorist organization in the UK.

This is not the first time Ali has called for British intervention. In July 2025, he asked then-Foreign Secretary David Lammy to deploy troops to Gaza to protect the Palestinian population. The debate occurred shortly after the UK announced new sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

While some MPs welcomed these measures and called for a tougher stance, others contested the timing, with just weeks before Israeli elections scheduled for October 27. Conservative MP Alicia Kearns suggested the sanctions could interfere with Israeli domestic politics, and Labour MP Peter Prinsley warned they might boost support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government. Former minister Matthew Patrick advised considering the conflict's impact on the British Jewish community amid rising antisemitism.
