Chief Rabbis Issue Yom Kippur Guidance on Charity and Prayers for Soldiers

Ahead of Yom Kippur, Israel's two Chief Rabbis, Rabbi David Yosef and Rabbi Kalman Bar, have issued a significant halachic letter. The letter sets the customary 'Kaparot' ritual donation amount at approximately 30 shekels. The Kaparot ritual, traditionally performed before Yom Kippur, involves symbolically transferring sins to a chicken or a monetary donation.

The rabbis also included an unusual and forceful call for congregants to incorporate special prayers for the well-being and safety of Israel Defense Forces soldiers and security personnel on the front lines during Yom Kippur services. This directive emphasizes the current security situation and the need for divine protection for those engaged in combat.
