Jewish Power Party Seeks to Disqualify Democratic Party from Knesset Race
The far-right Otzma Yehudit party has submitted a request to the Central Elections Committee to disqualify the Democratic Party from running in the 26th Knesset elections, citing "incitement to racism." This move follows a similar petition filed by the Democratic Party against Otzma Yehudit.
The Democratic Party's petition had specifically named Otzma Yehudit members Itamar Ben-Gvir and Tally Gotliv. They alleged that these individuals engaged in "harm to democracy and denial of the existence of the State of Israel as a democratic state."
Otzma Yehudit's current request argues that the Democratic Party's actions and statements constitute incitement to racism, thus violating Israeli election law. The Central Elections Committee will now review both petitions and decide whether to disqualify either party from participating in the upcoming elections.
