Democrats Seek to Disqualify Jewish Power Party from Knesset
The Democratic Party has filed a request with the Central Elections Committee to disqualify the "Otzma Yehudit" (Jewish Power) party from running in the 26th Knesset elections. The party cited "harm to democracy and denial of Israel's existence as a democratic state, and incitement to racism" as grounds for the disqualification.
The request stated that "representatives of Kahanism in the Knesset are no longer dealing in theory, but are using their governmental power and immunity to crush the rule of law, violate judicial orders, deny the authority of the High Court of Justice, harm state security, and incite to violent racism."
The Democratic Party specifically named Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Knesset Member Tali Gottlieb, who are listed as numbers one and two on the Otzma Yehudit slate, in their petition.
