Trump Envoy Kushner Claims US Leveraged Israel's Doha Attack Isolation for Gaza Ceasefire

Jared Kushner, former President Donald Trump's special envoy, stated that the US leveraged international pressure on Israel following an attack in Doha to advance a ceasefire agreement with Gaza. Kushner described the attack, which targeted Hamas leadership in Qatar's capital, as "terrible" and a military failure that isolated Israel internationally.

Speaking at the Yalta European Strategy conference, Kushner explained that the US "used this international isolation of Israel after the Doha attack to push them into a deal in Gaza." He noted that while Israel initially resisted the pressure and felt uncomfortable with the demands, they are now satisfied with the outcome.

The attack Kushner referred to occurred about a year prior, when the Israeli Air Force struck a building in Doha where Hamas leaders were meeting to discuss a US-proposed ceasefire. Although senior Hamas figures survived, a ceasefire agreement was signed the following month, leading to the release of 48 hostages, both living and deceased.

Kushner asserted that the agreement proved to be an excellent move for both Israel and the residents of Gaza. He also predicted the imminent establishment of a new governing body in Gaza, following progress in disarming the territory.
