Arab Israeli Community Grapples With Surge in Violence

A 14-year-old boy was critically injured by gunfire in the village of Kafr Kanna in the Lower Galilee on Saturday evening. Emergency medical services treated him at the scene before transporting him to Nazareth's English Hospital, where he is being treated for penetrating wounds. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for suspects, stating the motive appears to be criminal and the circumstances are under review.

This incident follows a pattern of escalating violence in the Arab Israeli community. The previous night, a 16-year-old boy was seriously wounded by gunfire in Jaljulia, in the Sharon region, and was taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. Earlier in the week, a 40-year-old teacher sustained a moderate penetrating wound from gunfire at the entrance to a school in Hura, in the Negev, and was evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

The violence has also included multiple homicides. Three Nazareth residents, aged 21 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in a double homicide the previous week in Nazareth, where two men were shot and killed in their car. Police suspect the motive was a dispute between local crime gangs.

This double murder capped a particularly bloody 24-hour period in Nazareth, during which a 27-year-old resident was shot and killed less than three hours later in the Bir Al-Amir neighborhood. The following day, a man in his 30s, Mahmoud Handouli, was shot dead at his home. Initial reports indicate the killer posed as a "Wolt" delivery driver, knocked on the door, and fired nine shots. In response to these four murders, police announced an increased presence in Nazareth.
