Maccabi Tel Aviv Nears Deal for French Winger Morgan Bokele
Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly close to signing 22-year-old French winger Morgan Bokele, who is currently with Metz. Bokele, known for his speed and energy, has had a nomadic career thus far, playing for five clubs since beginning his professional journey.
Bokele started in the Olympique Lyon academy but moved to smaller clubs before joining Metz in 2019. After impressing in youth leagues with his speed, he signed his first professional contract in February 2024 and was loaned to Epinal. Despite scoring one goal in 14 appearances, the team was relegated, and Bokele returned to Metz.
Initially playing for Metz's reserve team, Bokele eventually earned a role in the senior squad, contributing energy off the bench and helping the team secure promotion to Ligue 1. He signed a contract extension with Metz until 2028 but struggled to establish himself in the top flight, leading to loan spells at Dunkirk and a return to Metz's second division team.
Analysts suggest Bokele's pace and ability to exploit space could complement Maccabi Tel Aviv's existing playmakers, James Tavernier and Knikovsky. While not a prolific scorer, his contributions are expected to be in team play, defensive effort, and providing an attacking spark. His signing could be a key addition for Maccabi Tel Aviv's championship aspirations.
