Pink explained that as a Jewish mother, Macklemore's recent performances, which included pro-Palestinian messages and imagery from the Gaza war, frightened her and those she loves. She clarified that her initial social media share was a quick reaction, not a fully formed statement, and she prefers to be judged on her own words.

Recalling an incident from 2014 where Macklemore performed in an antisemitic costume, Pink noted that while he apologized and she forgave him then, his current actions felt different. She described his recent stadium performance where he dedicated a song to a movement and told Jewish attendees it wasn't about them, stating, "You can't decide that for us."

Pink emphasized she does not speak for Israel or any government, reiterating her stance that Hamas is a terrorist organization, Palestinians deserve a future, and innocent lives must be protected. She highlighted her decade-long work as a UNIDEF ambassador for children affected by conflict on both sides.

She asserted that her criticism was not about silencing artists or demanding refunds, but about her right to express fear as a Jewish woman without being accused of propaganda or supporting genocide. Pink acknowledged the loneliness of standing with her own people, stating it's more isolating than she anticipated but necessary.

The controversy began when Macklemore, wearing a keffiyeh, performed his song "Hind's Hall" and displayed images from Gaza during his opening set for Ed Sheeran in New Jersey. This prompted outrage and a petition from the IAC.
