Israel Completes Operation to Destroy Hezbollah Tunnels in Southern Lebanon

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the completion of an operation to destroy Hezbollah terror tunnels in the Ali Taher ridge, a key forward base for the organization built over the last 15 years with Iranian funding. The tunnels were intended to facilitate raids into the Galilee, attack IDF forces, and defend the area around Nabatieh. Katz stated the operation was conducted under heavy secrecy, with IDF soldiers and Northern Command representatives operating in complex conditions to eliminate enemy forces.

He explained that at the start of the current conflict, the defense establishment directed the IDF to maneuver deep into Lebanese territory up to the 'N.T.' line, aiming to neutralize infiltration threats and direct fire on northern Israeli communities. IDF forces are currently in the area, continuing to destroy tunnels and dismantle structures used as Hezbollah bases and outposts.

The operation has established a security zone stretching from the coast in the west, through Beaufort, to the foothills of Mount Hermon in the east. Weapons and ammunition seized from the tunnels include a cannon intended to target IDF aircraft, along with other armaments that posed a threat to the Galilee and Israeli soldiers.

Katz concluded that this security zone prevents direct attacks and fire on Israeli communities, allows for control, and poses a threat to Hezbollah deep within Lebanon, while maintaining readiness for continued fighting. He wished IDF soldiers, their families, and all Israeli citizens a good and safe new year.
