Boy Who Survived Stabbing Becomes Honorary Police Officer

MaarivCenter
Translated & summarized from Maariv by baba
The story · English

Five-year-old Ray, who survived a brutal stabbing attack in which his cousin was murdered, fulfilled his dream of becoming a police officer for a day. The attack occurred in Beit Shemesh less than a month ago, when an assailant allegedly entered the family's yard and stabbed Ray and his cousin, Hillel Mordechai Dedadun, 7, as they played in a pool. Hillel was killed, and Ray was critically injured.

During his visit to the Jerusalem District's Central Police Unit, Ray was fitted with a custom police uniform, rode in a patrol car, met mounted police officers, and rode a police horse. He also met Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Avi Absalom Peled and received police ranks from the officer leading the investigation into the case.

Major Guy Avrahami, deputy commander of the interrogation division at the unit and the lead investigator, described Ray's recovery as inspiring. "This child went through an unimaginable trauma. To see him standing today, walking, functioning, and smiling is incredibly moving," Avrahami stated. Ray's mother, Linoy, expressed that seeing her son smile again in his police uniform gives the family strength to continue with his recovery.

The police investigation into the murder and attempted murder is ongoing, with authorities preparing to complete the investigation and file charges against the suspect in the coming days.
