Boy, 5, Recovers After Witnessing Cousin's Murder, Identifying Attacker

A five-year-old boy, Ray Hanan Alon, is recovering both physically and mentally after being severely injured and witnessing the brutal murder of his seven-year-old cousin, Hillel Mordechai Dadon, in their shared backyard in Beit Shemesh about a month ago. The attack occurred while the two boys were playing in an inflatable pool.

Ray sustained a serious stab wound to his neck but managed to identify the assailant as Liel Ifargan, a 26-year-old neighbor and the son of the family's adjacent landlord. Ray's father, Shlomi Alon, recounted hearing screams and finding Hillel injured, whom he brought inside while attempting to staunch the bleeding. He also described how Ray, despite his own injuries, was able to tell him who had attacked them, saying in a child's words, "He made blood for us."

The police investigation indicates that Ifargan acted impulsively, grabbing a knife and committing the murder and stabbing in under thirty seconds. Ifargan was apprehended near the scene and subsequently sent for psychiatric evaluation. A police official noted that the motive for the attack remains unclear and may never be known.

Ray's mother, Linoy Alon, spoke about the immense emotional and physical toll the event has taken on her son, emphasizing that their recovery process has just begun. The family has organized a special "police officer for a day" event for Ray.

Shlomi Alon expressed profound gratitude for his son's bravery and his ability to speak, believing Ray's testimony was crucial in identifying the suspect and potentially preventing future attacks. He stated, "Because of his resourcefulness in telling and saying what happened, he might have saved the next victim."

An indictment is expected to be filed against Ifargan next week for the murder of Hillel and the stabbing of Ray.
