Israeli Football Association Expects Issawi Frej to Withdraw Candidacy
The Israel Football Association is reportedly convinced that former Knesset member Issawi Frej will soon announce his withdrawal from the race for the association's chairmanship. The primary reason cited is the incumbent chairman, Shino Zuarz, securing nearly 90 percent of the Arab community's votes, reportedly with the assistance of Abu Alaa and Bassam Suleiman.
Frej had apparently believed he could garner significant support from the Arab community, but current assessments suggest his prospects are dim. Frej needs to secure 130 votes by October 8th, but sources within the association estimate he currently has only 17.
Meanwhile, the Hapoel and Maccabi factions have reached agreements and are expected to run on a joint list. This development is seen as a success for the current leadership of the association. If this joint list materializes, Hapoel faction chair Keren Tzedek is anticipated to receive a higher position on the shared slate.
