New Collective Agreement Boosts Port Workers' Pay and Benefits
The Port of Ashdod's "Port of the South" announced a new collective labor agreement, the first since its establishment and operational ramp-up concluded in 2021. This landmark agreement, signed by the Histadrut labor federation, port management, and employee representatives, significantly enhances the wages and employment conditions for the port's 400 workers.
The new terms include improved benefits such as increased employer contributions to daycare and summer camp funding for employees' children, an expanded general welfare budget, guaranteed company vacations, and other benefits for workers and their families. The agreement also introduces an advanced productivity-based reward system designed to incentivize professional excellence and further boost the port's performance.
Furthermore, the agreement establishes a system for additional compensation for employees who pursue further professional training and certifications, recognizing and rewarding their career development. This development marks a new era for the port, which, like the broader Israeli port sector, has historically been characterized by strong labor unions and frequent labor disputes, often related to structural reforms and the introduction of private competition.
